Coalfire to Present at PCI Europe Community Meeting

October 24, 2017

Manchester, UK – Oct. 24, 2017 –Coalfire, a trusted provider of independent, comprehensive cybersecurity advisory services, announced today its participation in the PCI Europe Community Meeting in Barcelona, Spain, October 24 - 26, 2017.

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council is a global forum that develops, maintains and manages the PCI security standards. Its annual Europe Community Meeting is the premier event for Europe’s leading industry experts to meet and share the latest technological and security updates affecting the sector.

Andy Barratt, Coalfire’s managing principal for financial services and payment solutions, will present to delegates on the afternoon of October 25.

His keynote – “What Happens When the Attackers go POStal?” – will discuss the importance of point of sale security and the risks associated with a weak or untrusted system. He will also highlight how past threats could manipulate these scenarios in the future to cause havoc – and significant financial loss – for merchants.

Andy said: “With all the attention on the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force across Europe next year, there is a risk that other security threats will be neglected.

“Moreover, as GDPR tightens the security around the data that companies hold, cybercriminals will be forced to look elsewhere and find other weaknesses to exploit.

“Point of sale systems are one area that cybercriminals could manipulate to carry out mass automated theft, potentially making off with significant sums of money before the alarm is even raised.”

The PCI SSC Europe Community Meeting, which is sponsored by SSIC, Verizon and Microsoft among others, is being held at Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain from Tuesday, October 24 to Thursday, October 26, 2017.
