RSA 2012: Mobile, Cloud, and Intelligent Control

March 02, 2012, Rick Norman, Director, Professional Services

Rick Norman

It was good to catch up with our customers and partners at RSA 2012 this week. Much of the buzz this year was around mobile devices and securing the cloud. We were glad to see innovative organizations introducing compliance-validated architectures based on these emerging technologies.

One such organization was Hewlett-Packard, a Coalfire client and business partner. HP announced the launch of their HP PCI Compliance Stack. As an unbiased, independent assessor, we were able to provide value to HP on their new offering and we look forward to working with the organizations and cloud service providers that are deploying these HP solutions.

We agreed 100% with the keynote from Art Coviello in which he issued a call-to-action for our industry, citing the need for intelligent controls, since perimeters are increasingly non-existent.  And he should know better than anyone given the lessons RSA learned from the infamous attack on their company. We also spent time on the floor listening to the issue of compliance as the #1 consideration in many purchasing decisions.  We are glad to hear it because the more work done in this area by service providers, the easier it will be for their customers to meet the PCI DSS, HIPAA, FISMA, GLBA, and other standards.

There were many opportunities to meet with customers and partners to discuss these shifts in technology, security and compliance.  The crowded show floor meant there were lots of folks concerned with what’s going on, what to do, and who can help them. We are here to help.

Here’s to a compliant 2012!
