Introduction - Decommissioning a computer system (i.e., stop using or remove from service) is not as easy as it may sound. You could encounter a variety of issues before and after deciding to decommission or replace a system. In this document, we discuss the decommissioning plan and considerations that should be reviewed as you write it. When a replacement system is involved, writing a migration plan is necessary. This document is intended to help federal government personnel write the plan and manage the decommissioning process.
