C-Note: Cyber Security

by Rick Dakin, CEO, Coalfire

Last month Coalfire co-sponsored a Cyber Defense Summit in Dallas with the North Texas chapter of InfraGard.  For those of you who don’t know, InfraGard is an information sharing and analysis effort serving the interests, and combining the knowledge base of, a wide range of members. It’s a partnership between the FBI and the private sector with members from businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to guarding the nation’s critical infrastructure.

The nearly 350 attendees at the Dallas event represented organizations from financial services, manufacturing, retail and healthcare, all with one goal – to gain knowledge and insight about cyber threats that target critical infrastructure and associated business methods to mitigate the impact from those threats.  Coalfire congratulates these organizations for taking action by staying informed.  We co-sponsor community outreach and training events like this with InfraGard chapters in Denver, Seattle and Omaha and would like to invite you to join us when we visit a city near you.

The agenda at these free events features experts from the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, industry regulators, cyber security legal counsel specialists, and IT security executives from various industries.  They share case studies and information about recent cyber security issues and insights obtained from investigations and forensic analyses.  Attendees take away actionable ideas for how they can protect their own organizations from cyber threats.  The events also provide a valuable networking opportunity to connect with your peers.  For those of you who are required to maintain Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for industry certification, these events provide 6 to 8 CPE credits.

Events are just one way that Coalfire provides expertise on risk management, audit and compliance, and industry-specific cyber security issues. Please check out the new blog on our web site for timely insights on the most recent cyber security issues.  We’re committed to sharing our experience and knowledge to help the larger cyber security community.   Each cyber attack you can prevent, effectively respond to, or recover from is a win for the entire industry.  Please let us know how we can continue to help you.
